How to Hang a Chin Up Bar:


  • Find a secure structure to mount your pull up bar. If you are using a wall-mounted pull up bar, find two adjacent studs with a stud finder. If you are using a corner mounted bar, find two studs adjacent to the corner. For a ceiling mount bar, locate two ceiling joists. For a joist mount bar, find a single exposed joist, such as in an unfinished basement
  • Hold the mounting brackets in place on the structure. Carefully mark the spots where the screws go in with a pencil
  • Drill pilot holes into the spots where you are going to put in the screws with a 3/16" bit. Drilling pilot will prevent you from cracking the joist or stud when you put in the screws
  • Screw the bar mounting bracket into the wall according to instructions. Depending on the type of bar and type of wall, you may use plain screws, screws with hammered-in wall anchors or other mounting equipment to put up your bar
  • Double check all the connections to make sure the mounting equipment is secure. The screws should sit in the wall straight, and even and the mounting bracket should not move when you pull on it
  • Install the bar into the mounting bracket. If your bar and mounting bracket come pre-attached, skip this step
  • Tug downwards on the bar. It should feel secure and not move when you pull on it. If it feels secure, try a few pull-ups
